DESCRIPTION:Physical exercise is good for the brain\, and it can be even more beneficial when it includes “dual-tasking.” \nThis simply means adding an extra cognitive challenge to a physical movement\, like learning a new dance step or solving puzzles while walking. \nIn this in-person workshop\, you’ll learn and practice a wide range of dual-tasking strategies that are simple\, fun and invigorating for both the body and mind\, with modifications for all levels. Choose your favorites and make them part of your ongoing brain fitness routine! \nThis is a drop-in workshop and no registration or special fee is required; you just need admission to Providence Rec Center.

DESCRIPTION:It’s hidden in a private area of the body. But it’s so important to our quality of life\, in the bathroom\, bedroom and beyond! \nLet’s reduce or even stop leaks and other issues by getting to know and care for our dear pelvic floor in this lighthearted but impactful 1-hour workshop. \nPlease fill out my quick waiver and questionnaire (click here) when signing up. It mentions donations but they are truly optional. I appreciate anyone who attends\, donation or no! ? \nWe’ll practice together: \n– Breathing in a way that nourishes these often-tight muscles\, and as an extra bonus\, it also helps with posture and back pain! \n– Tuning in and sending care and appreciation to this neglected body part. \n– Doing Kegel exercises in an optimal way (most people’s technique is a bit off). \n– Bracing the pelvic floor\, which helps stop leaks and protects us when lifting a bag of mulch or a child 🙂 \n– Adding an inner-thigh squeeze to strengthen the pelvic floor (bring a cushion or soft ball if you have one!) \nPlus I’ll sing my “Pelvic Name Game” song at the end! \nWhat to bring: Please have a squishy ball or cushion that you can squeeze between your thighs. \nEven though I’m in the health/fitness field\, I didn’t know how to train my pelvic floor effectively (except “do Kegels”?) until June 2023. I’m a certified health coach\, personal trainer (age 64) and now a teacher of Pfilates\, a Pilates-inspired pelvic floor training program created by urogynecologist Dr. Bruce Crawford. \nSimply fill out my quick waiver and questionnaire (click here) to sign up.
